The Stoney Creek man who drove the getaway car in the Matthew Daly murder faces gun charges after a loaded firearm was found in his car.
A police officer discovered a loaded 9-millimetre handgun in Stephen Papadopoulos’s car during what OPP describe as a routine traffic stop on the Queen Elizabeth Way at Centennial Parkway about 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
Papadopoulos, 27, and Soukdara Saysounthone, 19, of Hamilton, a passenger in the car, were both charged with multiple offences.
Both are in jail pending a bail hearing.
At the time of his arrest, Papadopoulos was still serving a three-year probation term for his role in the May 2001 Daly murder, and was banned from owning weapons for life. In December a jury convicted him of manslaughter for driving the getaway vehicle the night a group of his buddies, wielding baseball bats and clubs, ambushed and beat Daly to death after a high school graduation party in Burlington.
Daly was 19.
