Past Polls

 ·  Do you support changes in the Employment Insurance Act to provide benefits to families whose loved ones are homicide victims?
 ·  The CCVF was forced to remove the poll question concerning the Long Gun registry in Canada. This poll was flooded by www.CanadianGunNutz.com sponsored by the Canadian Shooting Sports Association and the National Firearms Association. The post on their web site reads “Hit it folks….we are getting killed on this one and it’s on a crime victims site so ya know it’ll be used against us if they win…”40% to keep, 60% to scrap. This post resulted in unprecedented votes over a short period of time and invalidated the poll. There will be depositions in Ottawa in the coming weeks. If you are concerned please email or write your Member of Parliament.
 ·  Do you believe that a person’s environment when he/she is growing up determines whether or not he/she will become a criminal?
 ·  The accused knows more about the true facts than anyone else in a court that is committed to the whole truth and yet they are the only ones who can choose not to talk about it or be cross examined. A jury should be able to make a sensible conclusion from that decision.Should an accused continue to have the right to remain silent and not testify in our criminal courts?
 ·  Should killers between ages of 16 and 17 convicted of first degree murder be eligible for parole after 5 - 7 years?
 ·  The creation of a DNA Missing Person Index would allow a direct biological relative of a missing person to voluntarily submit his/her DNA to be compared against DNA taken from human remains that are found but unidentified. Do you support the creation of a DNA Missing Person Index in Canada?
 ·  Should we eliminate the “faint hope legislation” which provides a possibility of PAROLE after serving just 15 years of a life sentence for the worst killers?
 ·  Our Federal Government has just introduced legislation to stop the practice of Canadian Judges granting convicted criminals double time and sometimes triple time credit for time served in pre-trial custody awaiting sentencing, thereby reducing their actual time spent in jail. Do you agree with this new legislation?
 ·  Do you believe that violence portrayed in the media desensitizes people to the effects of violence, thereby contributing to aggressive tendencies, attitudes and beliefs of the individual?
 ·  CCVF Research. – We believe that our governments and existing victim service agencies do not fully understand the needs of victims, their families and survivors of violent crime. Would you be willing to assist us by participating in a CONFIDENTIAL research interview to help us define shortfalls in available services as well as create new services for crime victims?
 ·  The “Youth Criminal Justice Act” prevents the publication of names of the accused youth murderer and the names of their victims must also be kept secret. This prevents parents of murdered children from seeking the desperately needed public support in the most difficult time of their lives. Should the law be changed to allow the victims parents the right to let their murdered children be identified?
 ·  Do you believe that poverty is one of the main causes of "Youth Crime" in Canada?
 ·  Two young men whose high-speed crash killed a Toronto taxi driver in 2006 were spared jail sentences by the province's highest court yesterday. .........................DO YOU BELIEVE THAT THIS SENTENCE IS APPROPRIATE WHEN AN INNOCENT LIFE WAS TAKEN?
 ·  Should parolled violent offenders and sexual predators be forced to wear ankle bracelets (electronic monitors) to help police monitor their whereabouts?
 ·  A recent study has shown that Judges are routinely waiving a federal victim surcharge they are supposed to levy against lawbreakers to help support crime victims, but the study found the fee was waived in two-thirds of 62,000 cases over five years, denying victims of crime the support, counselling and financial assistance the law requires. “SHOULD JUDGES BE COMPELLED TO LEVY THESE SURCHARGES?”
 ·  Should the "Bernardo Interview" tapes have been released to the press?
 ·  Should violent criminals pay to help support their victims and survivors of violent crime?
 ·  Should Canada create new legislation to prevent convicted murderers from selling personal items such as letters, scribbles and pieces clothing as "MURDER MEMORABILIA" ?
 ·  Should The PAROLE System be revised to end statutory release (release after serving a short period of the original sentence) and changed to earned release. (proof that the criminal is ready to re-enter society)
 ·  Quebec has introduced new legislation, the first of its kind in Canada, that requires employers to grant a leave of absence of up to two years to employees whose child or spouse is slain. It also allows employees or their children who suffer serious bodily injury as a result of a crime to have the right to a two-year leave of absence, as well as employers to grant a leave of absence of up to one year to an employee whose child or spouse commits suicide, or if their child disappears, Should the rest of Canadians have the same rights?
 ·  Do you believe that the Canadian Crime Victim Foundation should receive government funding to assist with its objectives?
 ·  For us to be more proactive with our poll questions we would like to know a little more about our frequent visitors. Have you or anyone close to you been a victim of violent crime?
 ·  Have you lost faith in our justice system to adequately deal with violent criminals?
 ·  Do you believe that the crime rate is coming down in Canada?
 ·  Should drunk drivers who cause death be subject to automatic second degree murder charges with a 10-year minimum sentence and an automatic denial of parole on indictment?
